Clifford O. Taylor/Kirklane Elementary School is recognized as a distinguished member of the International Spanish Academy network of schools by the Education Consulate within the Ministry of Education of Spain. International Spanish Academies (ISA) are Dual Language programs that have signed a collaborative agreement with the Ministry of Education of Spain. This K–12 educational program is carried out within the framework of cooperative activities organized by the Office of Education of Spain in the U.S. and each participating district.
We at Clifford O. Taylor/Kirklane Elementary School have established a program, “The International Spanish Academy,” to provide children a course of study for the acquisition of both English and Spanish. Our teachers are committed to the creation of proficient bilingual students through a profound multicultural classroom experience. Our Spanish / English immersion program is research based on extensive meaningful hands-on activities encouraging our student's participation. It is our plan to have a positive impact on the workforce of Palm Beach County by increasing the number of potential employees who are bilingual and biliterate.
Spanish Dual Language
Dual Language is an enriched K-5 educational model that integrates English speakers with native Spanish speakers. The purpose of the Dual Language program is to promote high levels of academic achievement, first and second language development, cross-cultural understanding, as well as higher levels of self-esteem for all students. Teachers work in pairs to deliver instruction in both Spanish and English. Content subjects are taught in both languages to develop students' language abilities. Students will be able to speak, understand, read and write in English and Spanish when they reach fifth grade.
The Dual Language program will be most successful with the support of the family and school community. A commitment to ensure your child's continuous enrollment throughout the duration of the program is essential. Parents can support this program by attending meetings and parent-teacher conferences.
Spanish Dual Language Programs, also known as "Two–Way Immersion" programs, allow students to develop proficiency in two languages by receiving content area instruction in both English and Spanish. Students, regardless of native language proficiency, are provided with ample exposure to both languages, allowing them to achieve academic excellence while becoming bilingual and biliterate. The program also emphasizes cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Due to the rigor of Dual Language Programs after grade 1, applicants must receive an eligible score on a fluency exam to determine eligibi lity. Students entering a Spanish Dual Language Program for the first time in grades 2-5 must pass a fluency exam to determine eligibi lity prior to being made eligible for the Choice lottery.
